How to use the Bitcoin profit calculator
- Enter how much you invested in US Dollars — say, $1,000.
- Enter the Bitcoin price when you bought. You’ll find it on your order confirmation, or look up the price on the date you purchased.
- Check the sell price. It’s pre-filled with the live BTC price, so you instantly see today’s result — or type any price to test “what if” scenarios.
How Bitcoin profit is calculated
The math is simpler than it looks. Your investment divided by the buy price tells you how much BTC you got. Multiply that BTC by the sell price to get today’s value, and the difference from what you paid is your profit or loss:
BTC bought = investment ÷ buy price · Value = BTC × sell price · Profit = value − investment · ROI = (sell ÷ buy − 1) × 100%
Worked example: invest $1,000 when Bitcoin trades at $30,000 and you get 0.03333333 BTC. If you sell at $60,000, that BTC is worth $2,000 — a $1,000 profit and a +100% ROI. If the price instead fell to $15,000, the same BTC would be worth $500: a $500 loss and −50% ROI. Same coins, very different outcomes — that’s Bitcoin’s volatility at work.
Bought high? Zoom out
Bitcoin moves in cycles — sharp rallies, deep pullbacks, and long quiet stretches, often shaped by events like the halving. A red number today isn’t the end of the story, which is why many long-term holders simply HODL through the swings. If you want to understand what actually moves the price, read our guide to the factors that affect Bitcoin’s value. Past performance never guarantees future results — only invest what you can afford to hold through volatility.
Lower your timing risk with dollar-cost averaging
Nobody buys the exact bottom every time. Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) — buying a fixed amount on a regular schedule — smooths your average buy price across the cycle, so no single purchase decides your outcome. It’s one of the most popular strategies for beginners precisely because it removes the pressure of timing. Learn how it works in our guide: Dollar-cost averaging into Bitcoin.
Profit, fees and taxes
The calculator uses market reference rates and doesn’t include trading fees or network costs — on Coinmama, your final quote including all fees is always shown before you confirm. Also remember that in many countries, selling crypto at a profit is a taxable event. Rules differ widely, so read crypto taxes: what to know before you buy and check your local requirements.
